![]() Is there a newsgroup, public or private, seriously devoted to space elevator science and discussion? I ask because I'm writing a novel based on space elevators, and I'd love some discussion, but I really don't have time to sort thru bazillions of posts. If not, can anyone direct me to a forum where there is really serious discussion about the concept? I've found quite a few forums where such is being discussed on the web, but nothing quite like what I am searching for. Cheers to all, and keep dreamin' ![]() A |

I assume that you have read "The Fountains of Paradise" by Arthur C. Clarke. It is difficult for me to imagine another, different novel about a space elevator. It has all been said, or has it? Best of luck. There is also /The Web Between Worlds/ by Charles Sheffield. It came out at about the same time as the Clarke book. And as an example of Sheffield's Curse, was so similar to Clarke's that Clarke felt he had to write an introduction explaining that this was, in fact, a complete coincidence. Just changing the setting for the base of the tower should have a huge effect on the plot: basing the tower in Equador, for example, would be very different from putting it in Kenya or on a sea-platform south of Singapore. -- http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/ http://www.livejournal.com/users/james_nicoll |
