Default Mars rover Spirit at summit

There was a post here about seeing nothing but rocks from the rovers
for a long while now. Well, a bit of space history in the making --
reaching the first summit on another planet. Spirit is near or at the
top of Husband Hill. Yeah, there are more rocks. But also a *wow*
view, with a *big* dust devil caught in the picture. Link in one of
the unmannedspaceflight forums shows a stitched panorama from the
navigation cameras. Enjoy.

....Of course, what would *really* have made this a spectacular event
was if both Spirit and Opportunity were a) equipped with robotic arms
that could grasp, and b) a third rover had been sent up to take the
picture of the first two raising the US Flag in the same manner as the
taking of Mount Surabachi on Iwo Jima.

It would help if the mountain was U.S. territory, under current law
this flag is more reflective of our submissive posture.

I don't believe there have been any Marines raising flags on any Martian
hills.

But then, *you* do have a hard time telling the difference between fact and
fiction. Hint: Duck Dodgers is *not real*.

Only because we haven't reached the 24 and 1/2 century just yet.
RIP, Chuck.
