Default Day/Night areas on Mercator map

I want to create dynamic images of the world (Mercator projection)
showing the actual day/night areas (something similar to
http://anutime.com/globe/2Den.htm)

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of any
books/sites/information needed to figure out the math behind it. Any
help would be appreciated!
