Default NASA can't count or remember history

There is plenty of evidence that NASA is not always very good with
numbers, witness the problem it had with the Mars Climate Orbiter
insertion(metric? English? does it matter?), numbering Apollo missions
(Apollo 1 (?), Apollo 4 (what were #s 2&3?), the ASTP Apollo (no
number), the numbering of the Russian Soyuz and Progress flights to ISS
(if they can't keep track of their own flights, why should they botch up
others?), and the Skylab Apollos (were they Skylab 1-3 or 2-4?). The
last has apparently led to another instance of historical amnesia, as a
NASA press release talking about Thanksgivings in space says (thanks to
Keith Cowing, see www.nasawatch.com) "Astronauts Gerald Carr, William
Progue [sic, s/b Pogue], and Edward Gibson celebrated the first
Thanksgiving in space in 1974. They were the fourth [sic s/b third]
crew to live on Skylab."

Those who do not remember (their own!) history are condemned to have
their noses repeatedly rubbed in it...
