Hi,
The present shuttle mission Discovery STS-114 is once again proving that an education can turn an above average intelligence into moronic idiocy. The problem with the falling foam from the external fuel tank has already cost 7 lives and it could have caused the loss of 7 more this time. Question: who is the moron who imagined that a piece of styrofoam would stay stuck to a surface flying at thousands of miles per hour? Question: who is the idiot that decided that basically sound-proofing tiles glued to the shuttle body would survive the impact of a piece of frozen ice and foam falling off the said external tank at thousands of miles per hour? Suggestion: insulate the external tank from the inside and leave the hard metal shell bare on the outside. Suggestion: when the shuttle is on the launch pad run a continuous stream of water flowing over the tank to keep it free of ice. Suggestion: build a proper one-piece ablative heatshield on the underside of the shuttle like it was originally intended to have and replace this shield after each mission, instead of gluing new tiles into the broken gaps. Suggestion: fire the above moron and idiot. Suggestion: instead of spending still one more billion dollars and wasting another 2 years in redesigning the external fuel tank foam isulation, give Chris Rutan (winner of X-Prize) 1 billion dollars to come up with a shuttle design that works. In five minutes in a chair in front of a PC, you've accomplished the same as thousands of engineers working experiments and test scenarios. Quite how you reach these wonderful conclusions from just sitting onm your backside is astonishing, to say nothing of how difficult it must have been to get the data you have to back up your conclusions. You really ought to apply to NASA to work. After all, you can do in minutes what it takes thousands of dedicated professionals years to do properly. -- ICQ 40628243 Tel 07092057581 Fax 07092308800 |
