Double-A Damn! i liked him, his character... one of my favorites was the "tribble" episode where he got in trouble for fighting with the Klingons in neutral territory. Capt. Kirk questioned him about it, and Scotty basically said that it wasn't when the Klingons disparaged the Captain that caused the fight. It was when they called the Enterprise a garbage scow, and then said that "NO! The Enterprise shouldn't HAUL garbage, it ought to be hauled away AS garbage," that the fight began. And at the end, my favorite Scotty line... ". . . it'll be no tribble at all!" The honorable James Doohan, a.k.a. Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, will be sorely missed. At least now when we say, "Beam me up, Scotty," he will really be up there to do it! g happy days and... starry starry nights! -- Asimov! where have you gone? Yeah, maybe they will show the original series again now, I doubt it, the later and newer series were ok but can't beat the original ;-) Double-A |

He was 85. Didn't he say once that no one actually said 'beam me up scotty', rather like James Cagney never actually said 'You dirty Rat' As I recall, it would have been more like, "Scotty! Beam us up!" But memory accuracy of exact word sequences is not very dependable, as I have found in trying to do Google searches on "remembered" phrases. Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) at his Redmond, Washington, home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. Yeah, maybe they will show the original series again now, I doubt it, the later and newer series were ok but can't beat the original ;-) Double-A I still see an original episode shown once in a while on the Sci-Fi cable channel. It's interesting that they cancelled it after only three years. Shows the incompetence and lack of vision of network management at that time, failing to see the show's potential. Shows like "Battlestar Gallactica" tried to fill the void, but never were as good, and left one feeling lonely for Star Trek. But when I first saw an episode of "Star Trek the Next Generation" in the late eighties, I instinctively knew that it was the work of the same man who created the original series, Gene Roddenberry. It had the same quality. During the first run of the original series, many people liked to show off their new "color" televisions by tuning into the show. Star Trek was a very colorful show compared to the many shows that were still being shown in black and white at the time. Double-A |
