It's 2010ish and the SRB+J2/RL-60/SSME+CEV stack rises majestically away
from the cape for its first orbital mission. You can bet mission control wont be calling the launch vehicle 'the stick', or 'the pogo' (or 'the monstrosity' for some). NASA'll want something more inspiring (mythological??) than that. So come on people - we've had all sorts of suggestions for naming the Shuttle derived heavy lifter variants (Ares, Magnum, Hercules etc). What monikers might be floating around NASA back rooms as we speak for 'the stick'? I vote we call it 'the Griffin', but somehow I don't expect that'll get up... ![]() P |
