![]() NASA's very own Sean O'Keefe, the other day, announced in a effort to break the culture of silence, NASA is going to install Anonymous Remailers. This way NASA Engineers and Scientist will have the ability to discuss real and important issues in an unbiased and frank manner without fear of retribution from NASA's Management. No longer will Engineers and Scientist have to live in fear or be too "uncomfortable" to raise their hands and say, "Something's not right!" or "Something doesn't look safe!" The Anonymous Remailer will implemented through a NASA Web site and "file anything anybody sees as being off, it will make it really easy for anybody to participate and voice their concerns anonymously ...". After filing anybody concerns, NASA Managment will recieve a copy with the header appropriately scrubbed of the writer identity. This way top NASA management can be kept abreast of everyone's concerns, from the upper most rocket scientist, to the lowlist of janitor, he will recieve them all, without ever really know who's e-mail who's. "I thought about just having all the NASA and Contractor e-mail servers just add me to the recipients list of everyone's e-mail, but then my secretary pointed out all the chain letter she sends. She was really helpful, she mentioned Usenet, and how some people use anonymous remailers, and I thought that's just what NASA needs!" Additionally, anyone who's not worried about their careers at NASA, can use NASA's longtime safety-reporting hot line and printed forms. Although, the system has been around since the Challenger accident, it's essentially brand new, as it's never been used. Long time NASA advocate, James Oberg, was reportedly seen shaking his head and heard muttering something to the effect, "Where have I heard that before?" In other developments, Columbia Accident Investigation Board member John Logsdon says that the problem appears to be that NASA's culture has regressed several millennia, back to the stone age. Although NASA tends to refer to this as being in family, "it's a particular culture, has its own rules and its own behavior patterns." Kennedy say, "Me work Maintaince" Marshall say, "Me work Foam." Johnson say, "Me work Orbiter." Kennedy, "Me launch Orbiter :-) foam hit orbiter? :-0 FOAM HIT ORBITER!" Marshall, "Not my problem, :-? Orbiter problem, Johnson fix ;-\ " Kennedy, " :-0 FOAM HIT ORBITER!!!!!!" Marshall, " :-( foam hit orbiter :-( Johnson, "Not my problem, :-? Maintaince problem ;-/" Marshall, " :-( foam hit orbiter :-( " Johnson, " :-( foam hit orbiter, Kennedy fix :-) Marshall, " :-( But, :-( But, ME, NO MAKE SKY CAVE CALL!!! :-(" Although much of this cultural attitude developed under the direction of Dan Goldin. Some say, "There were people afraid to tell Mr. Goldin things he didn't want to hear"... Yeah, that should work, Anonymous Remailer, thats the ticket.
