STAFFORD-COVEY TASK GROUP ANNOUNCES JULY 22 PUBLIC MEETING

The Stafford-Covey Return to Flight Task Group will
conduct a public meeting by telephone conference at Noon EDT,
Thursday, July 22. It will assess NASA's implementation of
two Columbia Accident Investigation Board Space Shuttle
Return to Flight recommendations. The recommendations to be
deliberated are related to foreign object debris definition
and digitizing closeout photography.

The public can listen to the teleconference from the Apollo
Annex, 1740 NASA Parkway, Houston, Texas, 77598.

The news media can monitor the meeting via a special
telephone bridge. Following the meeting, Co-Chairman Richard
O. Covey and Task Group Operations Panel Lead Col. James C.
Adamson, will be available briefly by telephone at 2 p.m. EDT
to answer questions from the media about the proceedings. For
access, reporters should contact Shannon Bach at: 281/792-

Media who do not want to ask questions can listen to the
teleconference by calling: 321/867-1220/1240/1260.

The task group is co-chaired by Covey, a former Space Shuttle
Commander and retired Air Force Lieutenant General and former
Apollo Mission Commander Thomas Stafford. The task group is
chartered to make an independent assessment of NASA's actions
to implement the recommendations of the Columbia Accident
Investigation Board as they relate to the safety and
operational readiness of the next Space Shuttle flight.
