Sure it's a flame, but it's based on cold, jobless fact.
The fairy tale is over. The B.S. David versus Goliath (Celestron versus Meade) fantasy is put to rest. Now it's Wing Po Ling versus Joe America and buyers will have to make a decision, as to who they will support. The only good thing coming out of this will be that the crybabies who lamented Celestron's business incompetence as being due to Meade will FINALLY have to shut up! Meade, for now, is still mfg'ing the big scopes in California, as odd as that sounds. So, IMO, if any of you profess any interest at all in the American worker, you'll buy the Meades. At this point, you have no incentive whatsoever to buy Celestron since pricing for both scopes is virtually identical. If, at some point, Celestron scopes drop in price due to their "migration" of production to RED China, then you'll (like all Walmart shoppers) have a good reason to buy from the Chinese. Until then, anyone who buys a Celestron must still be labouring under the delusion that they are "fighting for the underdog." Well, the underdog just turned traitor, so what is it going to be, Americans? -Rich |

Richard, you live in Canada, don't you? (Not that I suppose it matters one way, or another) So where should the discrimination end Richard? If Celestron continues to make thier "high end scopes" (SCT's), and manufactures them abroad, I personally doubt that you'd be seeing any price drops. So, what about Meade? Can anyone acurately describe what exactly Meade is making currently in Mexico? I personally know of thier tripods for thier SCT's for one. What else is being made there? I'm sure Meade makes a nice profit on these items by paying Mexicans substandard labor wages in comparison to what Americans would be earning. Call Meade, and ask them what the cost is for a Giant Field Tripod? Last I heard was $750.00 US I understand Fender Guitar makes some of thier products in Mexico, and has been doing so for quite a few years. What about GM, Chrysler, and other car makers? Should America Boycott all foreign made products? Would that save our asses? Hell, people in this country will drive 10 miles further out of thier way to save a $1.00 on a few items at Wal Mart, rather than patronize a local Mom, and Pop Grocery Store. Little by little, the US will not be able to compete in any shape or form to countries like Mexico, and China. The handwriting's on the wall, the United States is going to face a very bleak future. America definitely has its ass in a bind. Mark D. |

Is it possible that the Meade Starfinder dobsonian series was the last MOSTLY American made scope produced? I say MOSTLY because I think the cheap 6 x 30 finder and the junk model #77 plastic focuser are probably the only parts of it which are imported. I have the 12.5 inch Starfinder and am very happy and satisfied with its operation. -- Martin R. Buy Meade and tell Celestron/Synta management that is our decision until we
are guaranteed that all Celestron production will continue at the Torrance facility. Bubba "RichA" wrote in message ... Sure it's a flame, but it's based on cold, jobless fact. America needs to do something now and support to good folks at the Torrance
Celestron facility. Send a strong message to Synta that if they eliminate manufacturing in Torrance we will buy Meade scopes. Bubba "Mark D" wrote in message ... It's odd looking at this from the UK:
1 Meade and Celestron were solidly vilified until Celestron was bought out. Now Meade is a bastion of Americanism. Maybe the talking-down claimed the weaker of the two - congratulations! Who will you talk-down next? - Televue? 2 The UK's last volume car manufactuer is now to close, losing 10,000+ jobs in that and support firms, because the Chinese DIDN'T buy them out. Roger |
