I've seen CTs parked at that spot just outside the pad perimeter during visits to KSC when a shuttle was on the pad. I think they park it there, for awhile at least, to support a quick rollback if needed. - Ed Kyle |

It's not like they're gonna park it in the CT "garage" :-) And keeping it there probably shaves a few hours off the rollback. - Ed Kyle |
