I've posted this same question in the Astromart Coronado forum, but there's been
no response. Anyway... I'm looking at a choice between the PST/T-Max combo ($1300) vs the SM 40 scope ($1700). It appears to me that the PST/T-Max has a narrower bandpass (= better) than the stock SM 40. Has anyone done this comparison? What's the downside of the PST/T-Max combo compared to the standard SM40? -- Curtis Croulet Temecula, California 33° 27' 59" N, 117° 05' 53" W |

The T-Max on the PST is reported to block the integrated solar finder unless Coronado has made some recent changes. A downside is that the narrower bandpass results in a dimmer image with only 40mm aperture. The PST also has very limited focuser range. This becomes an issue if you want to take photographs or use a binoviewer. Of course, for the price difference you can afford some adapters. Later, Michael McCulloch |
