Not realy much to post about, got set up by 6:30pm, first one to look was a
lady who had crossed the street and was heading down the street and as she passed by she asked what was this thing. I told her and invited her to look at Saturn, most dutifully impressed she was. Then about 7:50pm a lady and her boy stoped, they'd seen me for years but didn't know what I did, I showed them Saturn, the moon and Jupiter. This was the lady who's grandfather had/has the scope in Long Beach which if they contact me I may help them try to move it myself. By 8:15 a full overcast had moved in, even the moon couldn't shine threw it. So I packed up and came home. I looked out at about midnight and it was mostly clear ... Grrrrrr! |

Good on you for sharing our hobby. I love hearing the delight of folks
who see the Moon or Saturn for the first time through a telescope. Sidewalk astronomy and public education are pillars of amateur astronomy. |

It's surprising that the majority of the public thinks you need a multi-thousand dollar telescope to see this stuff. :-) Well, maybe some of the stuff...but most of the interesting stuff is in reach of a modestly priced and very portable 80mm ED refractor. -Drew |
