Default LIGO Interferometer Question

I was wondering if LIGO has officially recorded any occurrences of
gravitational radiation to date?

Thanks I.A.

Not yet ... Here is their web site:

http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/

Einstein@home seems like a good project to get involved with ...

Thanks I.A.

Everything?

I'm sure that the Web site goes into more detail, but it helps to
appreciate the magnitude of the signal they are trying to measure.
Quoting from their Web site, they are trying to measure a change of
"10^{-16} centimeters, or one-hundred-millionth the diameter of a
hydrogen atom, over ... 4 [kilometers]." That's one part in 10^{21}.
For comparison, 10^{21} meters is about 100,000 light years, so what
they are trying to do is equivalent to measuring a distance of 100,000
light years to an accuracy of 1 meter.

They are making good progress I think. Their newsletter:

http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/LIGO_web...ws/0503cit.htm

is positive and indicates they are making good progress.
Their newest project is Einstein@home:

http://www.physics2005.org/events/ei...ome/index.html

I signed up but have not started yet ...

Well, bottom line, there are no big problems, other than what Joseph
Lazio indicated of course ...
