Default Orion Computerized Object Locator (COL) cable?

I'm on the precipice, about to purchase an Orion XT10 Dob with a COL.
They now offer an RS-232 cable that Orion says "allows downloading of
software changes and upgrades available from Orion's website." I
can't find anything on their website about downloading software and
updates.

I've also read that the cable makes it possible to use your telescope
and the COL with software such as Starry Night Pro, but I don't know
what this would accomplish. I suppose it could potentially allow SNP
to scroll to the part of the sky you're looking at, but I haven't found
any information on this either.

I'm wondering whether to include the cable as part of my order, but
right now I don't have enough information to justify buying it. Does
anyone have experience with using this cable?
