Hi all, I have bought a 10" sonotube and an 8" f6 mirror as a start for
making a dob for my daughter, I understand that I need to peel the inner layer of the tube out so I can paint it flat black. Just one question: How the hell do you get that stuff to peel? It comes off in small strips and then is a pain in the arse to restart the peeling process. Is there some secret process or must I continue to pick at it a little at a time? It gets real frustrating! Please Help. Thanks and Clear Skies, Tom Wales |

Please Help. It just so happens that I was peeling yesterday! Anyway, first make sure that you should peel, i.e. that there is a layer of plastic on the inside of the tube. If there isn't (and not all Sonotube has this layer), then you don't need to peel anything. However, there may be wax instead, and we try and remove most of this via scraping/sanding. If there is a layer of plastic, then I do believe that it must be removed. It is a pain to do, but I have found that if I get a good start I can get large sections off easily, and at one time. One of my sons will crawl inside the tube and continue peeling. Not easy, but we eventually get it all out. Note that sometimes you have to take some paper with it. Any better techniques out there? Sonotubes are concrete forms with a slick water resistant interior surface layer, so the form can be peeled away after concrete sets. Use #50-80 grit sandpaper. J.
