Sorry, a rather bad typo, try it now.

So it seems, and there was I hoping to start a point and clock supernova
hunt ;-)

What are the alternatives for astrometry under Linux - I shy away
somewhat from the big guns.

Thanks, Norman.
I'd already looked at IRAF, but had decided that it looked a little
heavyweight. However, I've downloaded the (71 page!) beginners guide and
have a 25 hr flight coming up, so I'll see how I get on with it.

I presume that the RH binaries would install OK on a Mandrake (10.1)
system?

Sorry, I do not know enough about Linux to answer your question. I use a
fairly new, free system called Ubuntu.

IIRC RH installation file are sometimes a bit iffy with other distros,
but the given link looks like a straight forward tarball, and should be
fine.

I am using kstars, is this the same package? i.e is the K prefix
refering to the KDE, gui interface

I like kstars and the new version has small thumbnails of objects in the
night sky such as planets and the orion nebula, which is a really
nice feature, also it's integration with various databases, and photo
libraries.
