Well, if he thinks a space initiative is going to prove to be a great distraction for the masses, he should get some new political advisors. Dale |

The mystique of manned missions to the planets will always remain. However,
an automated heavy duty exploration system would be more useful. The excitement of manned missions and the can do attitude of the Mercury-Gemini-Apollo era is not there, especially the space culture has dwindled. The alternate energy program was squashed by the oil barons. Do you believe the oil cartel barons look fondly on oil independence? The space program is not petroleum dependent. It is much more likely related to the most populous nation in the world declaring they are headed there too. -- Daniel http://www.challengerdisaster.info Mount Charleston, not Charleston, SC |

The fact some of the big oil companies are at the forefront of developing 'alternative' energy is one of the best hints that (pick from the following) 1. Oil is running out. 2. Human driven climate change is worrying them. 3. Present or future /legislation/ about human driven climate change is worrying them. 4. They think they can get 'nice points' by pretending (2.). |
