Default Annoying Excel question

I need some help with my Excel program. Whenever I simply type a "1"
into a cell, it spits it out as "0.01." What the hell is going on here?

Check the formatting of the cell. It's probably set up for
percentages.

Nope, "general," with the sample shown being "0.01."

Ah, yes, it's a problem that has been going on for a while. Take a look,
those who wish to, at the spreadsheet I posted he

http://www.up-ship.com/ptm/PTMpseudoorderform.xls

Pick just some random cell off to the side somewhere and enter a "1" and
see what you get. If I want to enter a "1" I have to actually enter a
"1." instead. WHY THE HELL IS THIS?

I downloaded the spreadsheet and didn't see the problem. It may be a
Windows settings problem outside of Excel.

Just a guess, but in Windows XP, go to "Start Control Panel Regional
and Language Options Regional Options:"

Make sure you have these settings:

Standards and formats:

English (United States)

Number: 123,456,789.00

Currency: $123,456,789.00

Time: 5:44:44 PM

Short date: 3/8/2005

Long date: Tuesday, March 08, 2005

Location:

United States

I found the problem and can duplicate on my computer. To fix:

In Excel choose "Tools Options Edit: uncheck "Fixed decimal
places."

OK. Email me your mailing address. Let it never be said I don't pay my
debts. Might be late, but...

Anyway, the last issue will be a monster. The article I'm plugging away
on is already 32 pages, and I ain;t near done. Also have an article from
Dennis Jenkins that's 9 pages text and 27 separate 3 views, and then
there's...
