Default Celestron CG-5 motors on GEM-1 mount

Hi all,

I have recently purchased an Orion Optics (OO) Europa 8" reflector and have
had many long hours staring through the eyepiece manually twiddling the RA
knob to keep objects in view. The time has come for me to (try and) upgrade
the mount with drive motors.

Now, I have been reliably informed by OO that they no longer supply the
relevant drive motors because the company that once supplied them have gone
bust.

I put an ad on astroads for a second hand motor, not really expecting
anything back, but got an email from a chap who claimed that the motors that
were supplied with the GEM-1 mount were in fact clones of the Celestron CG-5
motors that are still available.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Many thanks in advance,

AndyK

Hi there Andy,

if you have no joy, try AWR.
They can supply motors for (almost) any mount.

regards

Thanks Robert,

After a brief search I found their website
(http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/awr.tech/index.htm if anyone needs it). They
seem to have a wealth of knowledge on this subject, a few hours reading
ahead methinks! I'll get in contact with them about my GEM1.

Cheers,
AndyK
