people would see it as a violation of the peaceful nature of space
exploration.

Space exploration (so far) is paid for by individual countries and
regions, so it seems to me that the country of origin can do whatever
they feel like. Pride in one's country is not a bad thing. Paying
tribute to a deeply-felt event violates what? Exactly who would this
offend? To think that space exploration is apolitical is an ideal, not
the reality. Sputnik and the Moon landings were purely politically
driven events. Should the US or China or russia not have their
national flags on the rockets that they use to send satellites and
probes into space? Should the US flag be removed from the shuttle?
Should the american flag be removed from the Moon?

How? Where's the aggression in flying with a piece of a collapsed

I think we should all campaign for this. While they're there
collecting the flag, they could do some science - Which would be a
longer-lasting commemoration of the Moon landings.

Now - how can we fool them into thinking that Hubble is all that
stands between us and world terrorism?
