Default Hurricane Jeanne Update

22:45 EDT

58 mph winds at KSC. The western eyewall is battering the vicinity of Vero
Beach (with hurricane force winds north up to Sebastian and Melbourne and
south down to West Palm) right now.

The predicted track continues to move further westward before heading north.

So far, Chicken Little's dream is being thwarted by a high pressure system.
I hope everyone down south is doing okay.

I assume that shuttle currently have their cargo bay doors closed etc.

Would water infiltration through the OPF roof/walls cause any water damage to
the shuttles ?

What would be diffrerent between now and when shuttles are on the pad for a
month, exposed to rain ?

Do the shuttles now have complete tile/blanket coverage of their surfaces ? Or
are there still many exposed surfaces ?

Doesn't look too good for KSC.

The remaining damage on the VAB will give Jeanne a much easier time are
ripping additional panels. And Jeanne is much stronger than Frances.

Can they assemble the stack in the VAB if it is just an open air structure ?
Or do they need it to be absolutely dry/clean ?

Doesn't look too bad, either. The power is still on at
the Cape and in Cocoa according to the report I'm
listening to right now. That's a good sign, in the
absence of a more specific report.

kerry getting elected, to the next in flight accident.

live in today.

Boob Holler will be discouraged when he learns that KSC made out
reasonably OK, through the storm.

The storm tracked south and west of where they had been predicting,
which is good for KSC. The peak storm surge also occured close
to low tide
http://tidesonline.nos.noaa.gov/plot...,+ FL+&flag=0
(I think Trident Pier is near KSC).

Ayup. The Trident Pier is at the south end of CCAFS. Right below the
word 'force' in this map:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...ent2E3Jg%3d%3d
TinyUrl of the above: http://tinyurl.com/5zdv9

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ima...=1964&z=17&w=1

It's called the Trident Pier because it was built for submarines to
pull in while testing the Trident -I and -II missiles. (Because of
the greater size of the bird and explosives safety regulations, they
could not use the Polaris/Posiedon wharves to the west.)

http://mindvector.dreamhost.com/HLS71001.jpg shows the basin looking
SE across it. On the left is the USS Henry L, Stimson, on the right
is the USS Georgia.

ObSSS: Most of the Challenger debris was offloaded at the Trident
pier during the recovery process.
