Default Neighbor just installed 2 cheap merc vapor lights UGH!!

Its so depressing, directly across from my house I have 2 merc vapor
lights they are 300 feet apart and cast light on approx 95 percent of
my yard making my viewing much more tedious.

I recommended hubble light shields to him in a nice way and offered
buying them and paying for the installation but he still won't budge.
I guess I have to get nasty and show him how his lights illuminate the
inside of my house.

Check the ordinances in your locale and see if there is a lighting
ordinance. It could make your neighbor remove/replace his lights.
Tucson and a number of other cities have outlawed mercury vapor
lighting.

Heck set up two banks of mirrors that'll reflect the light back at him.

Can you respond with some unsightly tall fence (if you make it uglier
from his side it may help)?

P.S. And what about putting up a laser illuminated disco ball in
your backyard + some loud music (triggered by photocell), then
leaving on a 2 week vacation?

Some states have passed statutes laws outlawing mercury lights, or
phasing them out. See if your neighbor is complying with those.
There has been a push from the federal level to eliminate all things
mercury from our lives.

Also check local ordinances and codes. In some places a licensed
electrician is required to legally install such lights. Did he get a
permit from the local municipality before doing this? Did he get
approval? Did he observe proper setbacks, electrical code, height
limitations, etc.? If he didn't do everything by the exact letter of
the law, he may have to take the lights down again.

Although these kinds of code matters are only loosely enforced, when
you call the attention of a city council to a specific violation, they
usually have no choice but to come down on the offender with the full
force of the law!

Also, if the lights are causing a real annoyance to you inside your
home, you may be able to sue him on the grounds that he is maintaining
public nuisance.

Good luck,

Silver paint on the sides of the lamps... he'll never see it in the
daytime.
