Default Meade Deep Sky Imager

Anyone have more info on this? Just got an email from Astronomics with
this link and some info

http://www.astronomics.com/main/prod...oduct_id=ASDSI

Is it peltier cooled? Opinions?

Hi:

There's a Yahoo Autostar Suite group (isn't there a Yahoo Group for everything
;-)), and there are already a few posts on the new camera the

Sad to see the resolution of these astro cams still stinks compared to lowly
consumer cams. Unless you spend about $5000 that is.

Hi Rich:

Resolution is _hardly_ the whole story.

Save the dough or double
it and pick up a nice, used cooled CCD camera.

Hi:

Well, that's an option...but--silly me--I think I'll wait until I actually
_see_ some pictures from this new camera before I decide! :-)

Anyway I
pre-ordered one from Astronomics.

Hi:

Be sure to let us know when you get it. Did Astronomics have any idea how long
that would be?

Me too, Rod, I'm going to wait. It seems to me though that Meade keeps
eliminating what could be potentially important things, like peltier cooling
and sensitivity, to keep costs down, yet a company like SAC has a great
peltier cooled and sensitive camera for under $600. I don't know why they
don't just kick the bucket and add these very desirable features.

Hi, I understand the cooling issue, but I thought the sensitivity of the
chip was quite good. Do we know which Sony chip they are using and how
they compare to the color, not black & white SAC cameras? Here's a link to
Sony chip specs ...
