My PST, ordered January: paid for March; arrived today. So the Sun
came out and showed me a breathtaking view of prominences and filaments round the central spot group. This is going to bring a lot of joy - as well as (please, pretty please) a magnificent view of Venus. Am I ever a happy bunny. -- Martin Frey http://www.hadastro.org.uk N 51 02 E 0 47 |

I know it's going to be subjective to describe it but... Is the contrast good? When he's carrying a parcel that can only be a new telescope, I am supposed to give him a full medical to establish his species? I must admit to grabbing the parcel, shouting at her to come and sign for it while I tore the parcel open, threw it on the tripod and rushed into the garden. Postie to viewing in 3 minutes. A record? Then 2 minutes viewing, the Sun vanishing (of course) so a message to uksa, total 8 minutes, and all without recourse to tree frogs or any other exotic toxic. Shame on you for entertaining such a thought for even a nanosecond. Now I can't look at the sun, just the kit, it seems far better made, altogether more solid than the one I looked through at AstroFest. Dead chuffed. Whoops the Sun may be coming back. -- Martin Frey http://www.hadastro.org.uk N 51 02 E 0 47 |

Really GREAT view, much better than what I hoped...... You really see the flares very good and when you tune diferently.... they vanish and then you can see the surface and around the spots... I was fortunate enough to have a quick squint through one of these some time ago and remember how clear the view was. I managed to point my digital camera into the eyepiece and (surprisingly) got a couple of pics (http://www.nuney.com/wansfell2002/dscf0217-cropped.jpg and http://www.nuney.com/wansfell2002/dscf0218-cropped.jpg) - these are rather washed out but you can still see prominences and spots. Happy observing - but I hate to think what the we*ther gods will make of this latest acquisition.... Chris www.nuney.com |

Not much control of this fairly automatic camera and no processing done beyond a slight crop. -- Martin Frey http://www.hadastro.org.uk N 51 02 E 0 47 |
