Default red white and blue star? Below Orion

never saw this before. A star is flickering very very vividly red
white and blue. It's below Orion, kinda close to the horizon. WOW.

I've seen stars flicker before, but NOTHING like this. It's been going
on for the last 30 minutes, thought I'd post here to see if anyone
else sees it, or knows what it is.

Sirius. The color changes are normal atmospheric affects, but enhanced by
the star's brightness and proximity to the horizon.

Correction, (grin), not so serious Sirius, (the wishy-washy star.

Twinky, twinky, sponge-cake bar. . .

Actually it is British (Sirius, the dog star, mad dogs and englishmen...)
and the colours (with a U please) are the Union Jack. :-)))

Indeed. The US red, white and blue actually derive from the Union
Jack's colours (hence the confusion). http://www.kimber.org/flag/
