Default CME arrival

Morning all.

The CME arrived earlier than expected - 0600 UT this morning. Already
there are reports of strong auroral displays over North America - the
solar wind density is high, Kp = 9, and the magnetic field is strongly
south pointing. If it's clear, get out and observe!!!

Best of luck.

Brian

The magnetic field is pointing North, and seems to be staying that
way......damn lol

Brian, I've read a couple of reports from Colorado regarding auroral
displays happening there earlier today. Is much else coming in?

Hi Pete.

There's quite a number of reports coming in of strong activity, with
aurorae being spotted as far south as Arizona. In the central US, full
sky aurorae were reported from about 07 UT - 09 UT, though things have
quietened down since as Bz has swung north and Kp has gone back from 9
to 7 in the last few hours. Fear not though - this display isn't over!
The slackening is due to the fact we've just passed the initial shock
and are still awaiting the main core of the CME to arrive. When it does,
we should see rotation from the north to the south with a longer
duration southward event than northward. This means that activity may be
a bit on the bland side at first, followed by intensification later in
the disturbance. Only thing to do this evening is to keep your eyes
peeled as soon as it gets dark tonight!

i awoke and looked hourly from 0100 to 0500 local oklahoma city and didn't
see anything. :-( hey, at least it was clear! :-) crossing my fingers
and hoping for tonight (i've never seen an aurora!).

clear, dark, aurora-filled skies--

Hi,

What is sure is that this (or a part of this) "perturbation" reached well
the Earth... the radio propagation on HF, mainly on the 20m band (14 MHz) is
deeply affected since tuesday : a really blackout at mid-latitudes... ! That
arrive not often.
