Just as it says in the subject header...

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/p.lawrence1/sunstudy.html

I believe that the diagram at the bottom of the page is correct (I'm
sure that someone will tell me if it's not!). Pretty amazing stuff!

Superb pictures, Pete.

Jupiter fits across the Sun about 9 and half times - so your drawing
is pretty close to right.

We don't want to get too hysterical about this - there was a single
spot about this size in the first sunshine we had after the floods of
two years ago.

These groups are very big but not huge and they are quite active. I'm
surprised to see them as the Sun seemd to be on a quiet descent
towards minimum - but this is the first such descent since I started
astronomy.

Cheers

Martin

I'm not hysterical Martin, it was a nice distraction to work off my
hangover this morning ;-)

What? Hysteria in Selsey, the anasthesia capital of the South Coast..

No - I never meant to accuse you or any esteemed member of this group
- but how come these sunspots made the national news, not the ones in
April (or was it March) 2002?

The great awakening of the media by the Mars approach has got a lot to
answer for - but I won't knock it. There really is no such thing as
bad publicity (unless you're royalty or a tory).

Cheers
