Hi All,

I got my scope aligned perfectly the other night, took a lot of pictures
that turned out
great. Neptune (with moons) and Uranus (with moon).

My overall goal was Pluto. I think I got it, but, I can not tell which
object in the photo is
Pluto. Can anyone assist me (Aug 6th 10:21pm CT) ? I took the pictures using
the ST-5c
by SBIG. (awsome thing)

I can email the photo if interested.

Russell

I can't help you identify them, but I'd still love to see them.

Post them on alt.binaries.pictures.astro (or www.mysky.org) Haven't seen
a picture of Pluto for a long time, and getting the moons of Uranus and
Neptune is quite an achievement.

Go to the following link:

http://ledas-www.star.le.ac.uk/DSSimage

Enter the coordinates of Pluto for the time of your observation. If you do
not have them, these are readily available from any number of home
planetariums (like Cartes du Ciel).

Next, select a field size of 30 x 30 arcminutes.

Make sure you check the "invert colourmap. . ." option.

Finally, click on "submit."

What you will receive is a photo of the area of the sky you chose. All you
have to do is compare it with your photo and find an object which is not on
the digital sky survey site.

Hope this helps,

Martin

Thanks for the information!!

I did get the moons on both Uranus and Neptune that
night. I think that I did not acutually get Pluto at present.

The moon was to close to it the other night so I will have to
wait until later in the month so I can take a longer exposure.
