Default Focus Shim Material needed

Hello all,

I have a very sloppy Orion Focuser---in fact two! One on my 8" reflector
and the other on my 127MM refractor. I'd like to add some "shim" material
to the inside of the tube but don't know what to use or where to get it.
And what would I use to secure it?

Thanks for any help.

I guess you have tried adjusting the allen screws opposite the rack and pinion
and decided you need something more.

I have used some teflon tape that is backed with adhesive to replace the flaky
stock pads. Its really not as thick as I would like but it was something like
0.015" and smoothed things up quite nicely.

I think it came from www.mcmaster.com

None better - also great for shimming lens elements:

Use self securing shim material !

A wise man from Illinois gave me the following priceless tip for shimming
focusers, and now I pass it on to you.

Silicone adhesive Kapton Tape
Get it at www.mcmaster.com in varying widths and thicknesses.
0.0025" thick was my choice, go around twice or more if you need to.
Widths to suit exactly your need.
