If you are referring to a human and an alien advanced
species being together at the same place at the same time,
that would #1 be quite dangerous and #2 be very unlikely
for the reasons you keep repeating. i.e. too far &
travel is too slow.

So, If you mean 'face' to 'face' your ideas are
probably correct.

However, most people understand that it would
be possible to have contact by establishing
communications. That could occur some year,
or decade, or century. That event would be
extremely important for the human species.
It would transform how we feel about and view
ourselves. "Ideas" are probably the only medium
of trade between solar systems.

Sure it's of interest to keep listening for possible transmissions from deep space, BUT any hope of 2 way communications must be seen in the practical light of the vast distances which would absolutely prevent such exchanges. i.e. - " Hi ! " yaers later " Hi, who are you " years later " We're on Earth " years later ... etc.

Why don't you give your scenario for a practical realistic exchange. Everything is limited by the speed of radio waves ( c ) and the vast distances. Is it not ? It's still Distance = Speed x Time.

Note that science fiction is just that. Operative term is fiction !

There's a short SF story about this non-problem. I think it's one of IA's.

The punchline is the hero notices his mom talks to the lady next door
with both hanging over the fence and just yammering non-stop. There is no
question and answering going on at all.
