Default SPHINX Arrives

By now, evceryone in this community has heard of this new GOTO mount
from Japan. I've had one on order for a couple of months, and it
finally arrived today. While I have always enjoyed star hopping and
nicely engraved setting circles and verniers, I have to say I'm
impressed. This new toy is going to be popping up like dandelions at
star parties this spring. What a nice mount!

With temps hovering around 0° all month, a foot of fresh snow on the
ground, and overcast skies to boot, I don't see myself running out to
use it for a while. So I set it up in the living room, and spent an
afternoon with the instruction manual. Beautifully built, easy to set
up, simpler still to use, and the planetarium/planisphere hand control
is revolutionary.

It isn't perfect- adding a keypad would be nice- but the 'star book'
feature is sure to be copied by all the other big boys. I can't wait
'til the wqeather breaks so I can really give it a good test.

Starry Skies,
Rich

Watcha gonna mount on it?

I'd be interested in how it performs with a C8, or similar.

Congrats! Please let us know how it tracks compared to a GP/DX and it's
goto accuracy ...

I think we all look forward to hearing how this works. Do you know if the
code supports autoguiding yet (they say in the 'documentation' on the web,
that the hardware is there, but that this feature will be added in latter
software releases). I was suggesting on another thread, that if this works
anywhere near as well as the GP-DX, then fitted with a small OTA, it could
well be the ultimate 'grab and go' scope system. :-)

Best Wishes
