This is supposed to be a replica of Galileo's telescope, except that it doesn't look anything like the original, is made of brass, and contains a roof prism to invert the image. Also, the lenses are coated and larger than Galileo's scopes. Here's the really funny part: Made by Grampus, the quality name in optics. Clear Skies! L Brown |

Who buys this crap anyway? Go to Ebay and look at this folks.....you can't afford not to. It's probably a salvaged binocular objective in a brass plumbing tube....look closely and you'll see the definite "Home Hardware" heritage. I understand Grampus buys all their fine "makin's" from H.H. This alternately makes me howl with laughter, and quiver with anger.....I might need some help on dealing with the the fine "Grampus" refractor............. |

It has the story about Galileo on a brass plate mounted inside wooden box . To me there is huge difference between these two as wide as Cassini division. |

It doesn't claim that it is the replica of Galileo's telescope. It has the
story about Galileo on a brass plate mounted inside wooden box . To me there is huge difference between these two as wide as Cassini division. I agree there is a huge difference. However upon reading the Ebay listing I noticed the following in the header: "Antique Brass Telescope with Wood Display Box Replica of Galileo's telescope 400+ years ago." Looks pretty cut and dry to me. jon isaacs |
