Default televue 5x powermate

i am considering getting one of the 5x powermates to go with my ed80
refractor. they say that these are primarily used with short focal length
refractors. the ed80 is 7.5 fl. i was hoping to use it to do prime focus
photography. now i am wondering if this is a wise investment.
regards,
john
