![]() Found on another group (sci.archaeology). Thought I'd pass it along. Starry Skies, Rich A number of us subscribe to Yahoo Groups of one kind or another. The following may be of interest. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++ Yahoo is now using something called, "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the Net and see what you're doing and where you are going - similar to cookies. Have a look at their updated privacy statement at: http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/pixels/details.html About half-way down the page, in the section "Outside the Yahoo! Network", you'll see a little blue-colored, "click here" link that will let you "opt out" of this new feature. Once you have clicked that link, you are opted out. Notice the "Success" message at the top the next page. Be careful here..., because on that page, there's a "Cancel Opt-out" button, just below it, that if clicked, will *undo* the opt-out. Feel free to forward this to other groups. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++ |

Interesting; I never load images anyway, not that I care about tracking and such. Yahoo are very welcome to track my every move, put cameras in the house, install listening devices in every room, and tap my phone. ;-) |

Also, unless you want to re-do the opt-out procedure each time you go online, you must not delete the Yahoo cookie. Yahoo has become a bit of a PITA. Well I have to ask why do you go there to read the groups? Don't you have
them send you the plain text format to your email address? Martin Poles "WayneH" wrote in message ... If you don't have cookies enabled, the "beacon" won't work anyway, so there's nothing to opt-out of. -- - Mike Remove 'spambegone.net' and reverse to send e-mail. |
