I see a couple of these being offered on Astromart. Why no takers? I need
something in this range. Recommend or not? Your opinions are valued Chris |

I found images on the dark side and not very sharp.(Your mileage may vary) Hey, I have no use for mine(and it cost me nothing)....would you like to have it for nothing? E-mail me. Your opinions are valued Chris Probably the main reason it's not too popular is that at 20 mm focal length you don't really need a special design in order to get ample eye relief. The selling point of LV is that they have the same eye relief (20 mm) regardless of focal length. But the eye relief of a 20 mm Plossl is about 15 mm, which is enough for most people. Plossl is cheaper and probably a tad sharper. Also I hear that this one comes with Vixen telescopes. If you get one with a telescope, and you also have a 25mm Plossl, you'll probably use the latter. -- Clear skies, Michael Covington -- www.covingtoninnovations.com Author, Astrophotography for the Amateur and (new) How to Use a Computerized Telescope |

Your opinions are valued Chris Have you ever experienced that immense feeling of relief upon having narrowly escaped a near-tragedy? I had one...briefly. Would that those sellers could say the same. Perhaps most receive them WITH their Vixen telescopes rather than via independent transactions. ....too many windows...too many image-softening, contrast-robbing glass elements. Also, Vixen's eyepieces comparatively...suck, for the lack of a better word, as I have their 6mm and 9mm orthoscopics. The University Optics orthoscopics lay them to waste, literally, within my case. Then, notice that the lanthanums are the ONLY eyepieces currently offered by Vixen. Disclaimer: The same does not necessarily apply to the quality of their refractors, reflectors, catadioptrics, and/or equatorial/alt-az mounts. Alan...who also owns a Vixen GP-DX |

Alan, if the Vixen orthos are bad (I have never tried them) it would be a very good move for Vixen to simply discontinue them. I am extremely happy with my Japanese UO and circle-T orthos. There has simply been no need for me to look any further. In my part of the world, the Vixen LVW:s are the only serious alternative to the venerable Pentax XL:s. They are very different from the LV:s, even if they all have 20mm ER in common, Anders H. -- correct address anhn at telia dot com |
