I visited a friend's new roll-off observatory on Saturday night. The
structure had survived Isabel in fine shape and the night was clear (if more than a little damp and dewy) and beckoning. Using his 12" LX200 the owner, yours truly, and two other Astronomical Society of Harrisburg members viewed a variety of objects including Mars, Uranus, M13, M57, M27, Albireo, NGC 7209, NGC 7243, NGC 891, M33, NGC 404, M74 (which was barely visible), NGC 7331, NGC 7662, M31, and M32. For the most part we employed magnifications of 98 (31mm Tele Vue Nagler type 5) and 177x (17mm Sirius Ploessl). A fine time was had by all before encroaching clouds got the better of us sometime around 04:30 UT. Dave Mitsky |
