Hard to believe! It seems that 2 off topic threads (which were really the
same thread), had more than twice as many posts as the most posted astronomy
thread.

Something's funny here, or my filters have AI. I don't remember
seeing many of these purportedly common threads appearing on SAA.
Could it be that the stats include the listed related groups?

Yes, it is, and it is so on so very many levels. For those who may have
missed it, make sure to scroll all the way down, click the profile
links, and note the owner of Netscan. Big Brother is watching you and
tracking your every step. It's 1984 and I just threw out all my Duran
Duran CDs. I'm kidding of course, Duran Duran music always induced the
dry heaves in me. Just like Bon Jovi, and virtually everything else with
an 80s vintage. Although I wouldn't say no to a vintage A-P refractor.

Needless to say but the most active topics do not reflect very
positively on the group as a whole, but the nice thing about report
cards is that they can serve as reminders to do better.

Kudos to Jon and Rod, though. You boys kick some serious ASCII!

There's no lurker information, however.

Also, "Big Brother" is so very, very blase.

'Tis now...THE MATRIX!

Bill Gates's an "agent."

Eeek!! _I'm_ number 3 in quantity of posts for the year?

That's probably not a good sign at all. Time to get a life.

Bye.

This is a good thing, and it is a big part of what keeps SAA effective. There is
a low percentage of off-topic threads (even if some of those generate the most
overall traffic). Of course, it is as easy to ignore a thread with 1000 follow
ups as it is one with two or three. What would suck the group down would be lots
of individual off-topic threads, making it difficult to extract the topical
nuggets. Luckily, nothing like that has happened. Indeed, for those so inclined,
it takes just a few well designed filters to eliminate virtually _all_ the
non-topical posts. I don't think there are many popular NGs you can say that
for.

MS announced they are discontinuing free chat service through most of the
world. According to USA Today, "Microsoft will introduce an unsupervised
chat service solely for subscribers, who are considered more accountable
because their billing details and identities are on record with the
company."

Easier to track and more profitable.

Stephen,

It's all good. Someone had to be number 3 and someone had to be number 6.
;o)

My best to you,

Martin
