Stormy weather on Saturn Astronomers have for the first time glimpsed lightning storms on Saturn. http://www.sciencenews.org/view/gene...ther_on_Saturn This series of images, taken over 13 minutes, shows the first lightning storm to be detected on Saturn. Some of the spots in the background are due to cosmic rays. The Cassini craft took the images from a distance of about 2.1 million kilometers above the planet. hanson wrote: Thanks, Sam... "2.1 million kilometers" that's almost 6 times the dance of earth-moon @ 384,000 km. That is some big ass lightning storm. How sure are they that it is not some other phenomena, like our terrestrial, very high altitude sprites? hanson |
