Moon Deeds

I just got spammed by some guy who claims he owns the moon and planets and
is selling 1 acre plots for $30. I find his justification curious. He
claims since no govenment has told him he doesn't own it, he legally owns
it. Anyone want to buy Illinois from me? No one's told me I don't own
it!

Don't know about that guy...but there is someone who HAS filed a claim
on property of the moon. This is just a long stream of people taking
advantage of peoples vanity. You are all familiar with the company
that sells the "right" to name a star. There are actually a few
companies that do that...plus a company that sells you space on a
rocket ship so that when you die and are cremated...some of your ashes
along with those of others will be crashed into the moon to spread it
around. It is amazing how many ways there are to rip you off...and how
many rubes are born every minute.

Probably the same guy. He says he now owns it because he filed claims
with the US, UN and Russia no one disputed them. Seems to me a land claim
has to be ACKNOWLEGED by the government that oversees the land to be
valid. Lack of refusal does not imply consent (any astro-legals out
there?). Here is a CNN link for the curious. I can e-mail the actual
link if anyone is really curious about his claims, but I refuse to
advertise for him in a public forum.

When I was a small child someone (Tom Corbett, Rocky Jones, Captain Video
- one of those Saturday morning TV shows) was selling deeds to the moon.
There's an international convention to the effect that heavenly bodies
are owned by all mankind (or noone, take your pick).
