Craft Date: 9/10/03 11:38 AM Pacific Daylight Time Message-id: The trick, Chuck, is to put a space between D, &, and G when entering the name into the search engine slot of the most venerable Google... http://www.dgoptical.com/ *************** Thanks for the web site! Maybe the 8" f/15 is the cheap way out for me. I'm gonna need a monster mount and a real tall tripod! I dont wanna be on my belly looking thru the darned thing... Chas P. |

Hi Chas, A consideration for this scope would be a Chromacorr, from
Valery (Or John Hopper, Aries-USA Distributor) Only about a couple of weeks ago, I casually chatted with Valery in private email about such an arragement. I believe he said that a D+G F-12 would be just fine with the Chromacorr, and you wouldn't have to resort to F-15 for good color correction. This might ease some demands on the mount issues a bit. Check with Valery, and see what he has to say. Sounds too, like D+G has made some improvements with their Scopes lately, as they now use the AP 2.7" Focuser. Mark |

Mark ******************* I called D&G and had a talk! The price is rite, for a 8"f12, around $4000. The only problem would be a mount, guess the AP-1200 , or a GM-200 would hold it just fine. I would need a very high tripod, or i would have to built a very soild pier! Chas P. Guess the cost of the 8" D&G, mount and |

Hi Chas, Don't quote me on specs, but the D+G 8" certainly does weigh
much less than a TMB 203 Apo. Still, there are the torque loads (And as you mention, height) that such a long tube place on a mount. A G-11 could probably bear the weight, but would be crying like a baby trying to drive that scope, especially if a slight breeze came along. One idea is a good EQ Head, with an aftermarket portable Pier (Pier Tech?) Push a button, and the scope raises, and lowers on it's telescoping Pier. The possibilties are virtually endless! Ain't that great! :-) Mark |

I'm afraid that that aspect won't be so cheap, and far beyond whatever you pay for the optical tube assembly. Oh, but wouldn't it be nice! I saw a picture on their website of a guy who has that very same o.t.a., and on a piered mount. Alan ************************* Maybe Losmandy can make me a extra tall tripod, for the GM Titan mount! Plus i would go with a f/12! Chas P. |
