Default Deluge, Damage Loom for Portland Region

"Deluge, Damage Loom for Portland Region

by Stuart Tomlinson, Kimberly A.C. Wilson and Michael Milstein, The
Oregonian
Tuesday January 06, 2009, 10:05 PM

It is, forecasters say, the perfect stew of ingredients for major
flooding and landslides -- warm rain combined with rapid snowmelt
gushing into bank-full rivers and onto soggy soils.

The National Weather Service says as much as 4 to 8 inches of rain
could fall in the coastal mountains of Oregon, and 5 to 10 inches of
rain in the coastal mountains and Cascade foothills of southwest
Washington before the moisture tap shuts off Friday.

One to 3 inches could fall in the Portland area, as a warm plume of
moisture aims like a firehose at both states, with the heaviest
rainfall hitting Washington first and sagging into Oregon late this
afternoon into tonight. State geologists issued an alert warning
residents generally in western Oregon and Washington who live beneath
steep slopes or at the mouths of canyons and streams to be prepared
for rapidly moving landslides or debris flows, similar to the one that
destroyed a home in Lake Oswego last week.

The outlook for much of the Pacific Northwest is worrisome,
forecasters said Tuesday, as they issued dozens of flood warnings for
rivers in region. Think flooding and landslides perhaps as bad as
December 2007 but shy of the disaster in 1996, officials said."

AA You are to far north. Do what the geese do and go south for the
winter(Mt. Baldy) My heavy air theory will dump to much rain and snow
in Washington and Oregon. I predict in the near future these states will
lose lots of people. They will leave in 1000s. You are a glutton for
punishment TreBert

Of course Florida takes a back door to no one when it comes to high
winds and heavy rain! At least we don't get twisters!

AA Heavy rain and 80F is not the same as heavy rain and 35F. Since you
are out doors you could be a pole sitter. Break a record, and while
sitting you could be sponsored by Swift sports, and cold cuts. Campbell's
soup might throw in $50,000. Might as well make a buck out of what you
are going through. Might have a nice view 100 feet up. Take a
telly, laptop, and rope. I could design the platform and the crows nest.
You could go up in a cherry picker. In 1937 Revere Beach had a pole
sitter that stayed up for 4 months. A girl about 5 years ago stayed up
350 feet in a Red Wood. I like this idea for you,and would do it
myself, but alas I am afraid of height TreBert

I have not cared much for heights since I was a kid when I slipped and
almost fell off a 100 foot cliff! A boyhood friend of mine fell off
off a 600 foot cliff and died at age 11. We had a guy here who stayed
up on the side of a downtown building for many days protesting the
cutting of old growth forests. But being a "trouble maker", he is now
in jail.

AA If you do not have claustrophobia I have this idea for you. Be the
record holder buried under grown. Under ground chamber think of as built
like H-Bomb shelter. You could be sponsored by your local undertakers, and
sleep in their most expensive coffins(comfy cozy) No worry about the
elements. Take telly laptop and lots of sponsored food. Campbell should
throw in $100,000. You will show for a street person living under the
street makes good sense. Cheap and very effective housing. You would be
famous if you could stay underground for 18 months,or more.If younger I
would do this easily. Try it you would be so better off. TreBert

The trouble is, I do have claustrophobia! So much so that as a kid I
think I wanted to be an astronaut because I hoped I might be "lucky"
enough to eventually end my life in a (Challenger type) disaster where
I would be blown apart, and thus never have to be burried in the
ground.

I doubt that coffins are actually made with the comfort of the
occupant in mind. They are all about "display".

And what would I do with all my **** and ****? Funny how no one ever
thinks about that.

I heard about some Indian guru who had himself burried in a grave for
something like a month, and then when they dug him up again, he was
still alive. This Houdini-like trick was touted as some sort of
miracle, and I'm sure increased his follwoing (and contributions).

AA **** and **** no problem That is what the rope is for.It also brings
up pizzas. Sponsored by Pizza Hut.(two toppings) Well you know people
with claustrophobia are ok as long as they can get out on their
own(control the action) Since in the cold nights you can't sleep why
not use the time to break the record for continual use of a yo-yo. I
think the record is two days. You could do that standing on your bench.
Toys are Us could be your sponsor, and I loved the yo yo as a kid,and you
could make it come back in style. Learn to do the cradle. The walk, the
crawl etc. You need a sponsor AA. Can you do ice sculpture?

Yo-yos have a cyclical popularity. You're right though, I need a
sponser.
