Default The Clouds of Magellan

The Magellanic Clouds are 2 satellite galaxies of the Milky Way, easily
visible from the Southern Hemisphere. Both are classed as irregular galaxies
although one (the LMC?) displays some incipient bar structure I believe.
Objects in the galaxies (and there are many) are designated with the prefix
"N"
Can anyone point out to me where a complete catalogue of these N objects are
on the web and it's history?

Yes, the LMC.

The starting point for such queries is the "Reference Dictionary"
at
http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/Dic-Simbad

You will find the origin of "N" to be Henize (1956) ApJS 2, 315, and
the objects in question are H II regions. The full article should be
on the web, and the catalog should be in SIMBAD. You will also find
that the designator "N" is now deprecated (mainly, I suspect, because
it has been so badly misused over the years.)
