LEAP Year TPASS 24May08by Don S. McDonald
63-3 Hutchison Road, Wellington, ID/mind +64 (4) 389-6820.

Sat. 24-5-2008.
Dear Editor,

The Gregorian calendar, with 97 leap days per 400 years, is a clumsy
approximation to the tropical year -. 365.2425 days as opposed to
365.2422 days, (Geoff Dobson, The Phoenix Astronomical Soc., May 2oo8
newsletter.)

The Gregorian Calendar's distinguishing merit is that the days of the
week, Sunday to Saturday, repeat after 146,097 days cycle. (Maths
14-63-07 minus 210.)

365*400 +100 -4 +1. days. XXXX

Another speaker, Luca Quaglia 'The Sun in the Church' (WASS 2oo8),
argues for Equinoctial year and Dynamical time. (Alan Gilmore, Mt
John Observatory, Radio NZ, 22-5-08.)

Apparently, Archimedes and Euclid possess the mathematics required for
leap year and Antarctic circle - Don McDonald, A =PI* X^2, Area of
Compass circle on a Sphere. (Cover, NZ mathematics magazine 25 (2).
Aug 1988.)

What is the Minimum Distance that a polar satellite can 'snap' the
Arctic Circle, etc.?
Google: Donald Stuart McDonald, World Mathematical Year 2000.
Ideas_poster_13 to 22. (?)

How many full moons cover the celestial sphere to make daylight?
Tip . (sin .25 º )^ -2 = 52 525.25. It's a nice equation—BUT WRONG.
Don hobby page 'gadot', Paul Moss.
'Easter Greetings', Dominion Post Wellington 29/3/2008.

Therefore, Polar Cap = (sin (23.5 º/2))^-2 = one 24.11th part of
sphere. (??)

FROM N Earth radii above surface, a weather satellite glimpses
instantaneously N / (N+1) of hemisphere EXACTLY!

Casio Fx-82 school's sci-calculator says;
Continued Fraction Convergents = [365; 4,8,-4,5,-3/10.]
= 365 +1/( 4+1/ (8-1/(4+1/ ……………….* EUCLIDEAN algorithm.

Everyone should see that 8 leap years every 33 years = 365.242424
days is closer to 365.2422 than the Gregorian calendar, 97/400 =
365.2425 days.!!!
The 4th 8 12 16 20 24 28 and 32nd years of 33 year cycle would be leap
years.

How do we calculate 100*cc + yy. EQUALS (cc+yy) MOD 33. because 100
= 3*33+1.
Add Hundreds and cents.
However, in my opinion 31 leap years every 128 years is the ultimate
leap year calendar for CE. Common Era. = 365.2421875 days. Every
4th year except multiples x 128 == 2^7th.
Year 2048 = 2^11th will be an unusual 'common year.'
Oooooooooooooo --- ooooooooooooooooo.

I have been sceptical x 8 years.
Have the astronomers observed the regular periods of

Can you prove it?

Is there an easier explanation.
Is the experiment repeatable.?

365.242424 days =
8 leap years every 33 years.
= 24 leap years / 99 years.
= .24 24 24………. / .99 99 99………..

1980= 19+80 = 99 leap year.
= 0 mod 33.
Every 4th years.
1980 + 4 8 12 16 20 24 28 year
= 1984--- 1988….2000 2004 2008. today. This year

Next leap year in FIVE 5 years.
2008+5 = 2013 (NOT 2012., delay 1 year.)
20+13 = 33
= 0 mod 33. (remainder on division. e.g. 12 hrs
o'clock - 1 o'clock.)

400 year Gregorian calendar.
365.2425, less accurate// equinoxial year.

Excellent talk , Thursday 14/2/08.

= 365*400 + 100 – 4 +1

The calendar days of week repeat.

Yes, but everyone *does* also see that it's way easier to remember
that years that divide by four are leap years, with a special rule you
use once a century, than try to figure out where we are in a 33-year
cycle.

We can always fix the Gregorian calendar by not having a leap year in
4,000 A.D., or we could allow an odd number - 9 instead of 33 - to be
used for the century rule, and follow the Orthodox Church rule, but
even that is complicated and awkward by comparison.
