I'm kind of surprised that s.s.h. isn't taking more note of all the
anniversaries this week:

Like Apollo 10, or TWA Flight 800, perhaps they never happened.

Sometimes, Rand, there is just nothing new to say.

Sometimes, just noting an anniversary doesn't take that much. I'd
think that it warrants more than nothing at all, in a "history"
newsgroup.

It's never about having something new to say, that is unless the whole
truth happens to emerge. It's about showing respect and some level of
remorse.

Rand, don't misunderstand me. I reflect on this every year, and
posted a tribute in my blog. I meant that, personally, I felt I had
nothing to add here.

Matt

OK, well, I felt I did. At least as far as pointing to what I had to
say at my blog, and and Pajamas...

Was it really an event of any significance? Some Astronauts died, and a
vehicle was destroyed, because of a management stuff up. It wasn't even
the first example of such a thing in the Shuttle program.

That "one vehicle" was a *quarter of the entire fleet*. It spelled
(finally) the end of the Shuttle program. I'd say that from a space
policy perspective, that was an event of some significance.

In article ,
h says...
I'm kind of surprised that s.s.h. isn't taking more note of all the
anniversaries this week:

I can't not be aware of it. Christa McAuliffe grew up in my town. She
got her teaching degree from my next door neighbor. When I take the back
route to the bagel place for breakfast, I walk by the McAuliffe Center
(
http://www.christa.org/main_page.htm) with its 10 foot tall Challenger
model. Her parents still live here. A day or two after the loss of
Columbia, I was out for a walk and saw the local TV station trucks at
the old town library. The news crews were interviewing Mrs. Corrigan
about what it's like to have a child die onboard the Space Shuttle.

On the other hand, I really don't have anything new to say about the
subject...
