"Launch pad 39B was being used for the first time.
During the fall, the crew preparing the pad for this
liftoff sent Christa a telegram to assure her that she
should not be worried about the pad. It would be in
perfect condition for the teacher!"

The following is an excerpt from Item 4 of an admissions document
filed by Lockheed with the Superior Court, County of Santa Barbara
(Proof of Service dated May 22, 1992):

"However, Lockheed admits that documents relating to the
installation, inspection, verification and operation of
the ground services associated with the launch of Mission
51-L were turned over to NASA after the explosion of the
Challenger space shuttle and are currently under protective
seal and restricted distribution."
