Was that the one where a plane ended up in orbit and followed a shuttle down in order to use it as a "heat shield"? I actually gagged on my drink when I heard that while watching the movie. I guess they writers didn't understand what a heat shield actually does..... Some say Armageddon was bad but I actually kinda liked it. It was so silly and funny, right from the start, that I never took it seriously as a Sci-Fi story. Just a comedy - drama. uray |

what ranks as the most unrealistic space movie? BRBR
Starflight is hard to beat, though "Earth II" took a shot at it, and the preposterous premises of "Plymouth" and "Capricorn One" earn them a place in the space doody pile. Matt Bille ) OPINIONS IN ALL POSTS ARE SOLELY THOSE OF THE AUTHOR |

There's actually something about Capricorn One that I like. I can't say what, because it IS a bad movie, but it's one of those bad movies that I enjoy. Maybe because the governments screwed at the end? uray |

In article ,
com says... I remember with some amusement the list of things wrong with Apollo 13 (sound in vacuum, arguing astronauts etc) However, these seem like quibbles after a recent movie i caught the majority of on TV, "Red Planet" or some such, with val kilmer i believe on a mission to mars. It could not seem to go 30 seconds without something happening that absolutely shattered any pretense of being anything like what would be done by anything resembling professional astronauts or a planned mission. And I was cracking up over how many mars probes that were lying around to be salvaged and used. This set me to wondering: what ranks as the most unrealistic space movie? To qualify, it has to have some pretense of realism (this excludes Star Wars etc) votes anyone? Hmmm... that's hard to say. "Saturn 3" qualifies, I think. Bad movie all around, except maybe for the score. -- Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for | Doug Van Dorn thou art crunchy and taste good with ketchup | |

I've managed to avoid most of a TV movie called "Apollo 11" that seems to bring in a lot of imaginary crises. You can just imagine the discussion after "Apollo 13" came out. "What can we do - Apollo 14 ?" "Which was the first landing ?" long pause "Apollo 11" "But nothing happened" "So ?" The end of "Max Q" probably qualifies, when they land on a freeway. -- "Forty millions of miles it was from us, more than forty millions of miles of void" Remove spam and invalid from address to reply. |

The ratings on it weren't bad either, but NBC passed on a series over costs on special effects and Lockwood's wanting more money for a regular series.
