the beginning of the Universe is presently assumed to happen with a
singularity, a singularity similar to the singularity you would find at the center of a black hole, but one that only existed at the beginning of time. And just like nothing can escape the event horizon of a black hole, nothing can escape the event horizon of the Big Bang's singularity. We and all the matter of our Universe still remain inside this ever receeding event horizon that forms the boundary of our Universe. Our Universe only appears to be expanding like an explosion because new empty space is constantly being created all around us within this event horizon. Matter isn't blowing up, space is blowing in. This implosive view helps explain the isotropic nature of the Universe better than the explosive view. The Big Bang, or more accurately the Big Suck happened at the outer boundary of our Universe, not its the inner center. (Though at the time, they were pretty much the same thing.) So things look the same in every direction, because the beginning of our Universe happened in every direction. This view also suggests why no other white hole has yet been found, though its symmetrical opposites, black holes, are now being found all over the sky. A white hole may only be perceived from its inside. This would mean we will only ever find one white hole, the one our Universe lives inside of. |
