Shredded cable?

I was a bit worried to hear that two of the strands in the 21 strand cable
were severed. what could have caused this, and one wonders how many other
places this may have happened.

Seems to me that someone needs to have a long look at solar array deploy and
maintain systems, especially if they are designed to be undeployed.

Are the newer arrays built essentially the same way? What could happen if an
array guide wire actually broke?
