My reception is pretty crappy, so most of the improvement is lost.

Brighter colors, much improved "phaser" launch, marginally improved
explosions.

One thing that wasn't done that should have been done was improve the
location graphic- it still looks like Powerpoint circa 1945. No good reason
not to have fixed this.

....Which episode did they air first? It's supposed to air down here on
one of the channels later tonight, but no word on their site as to
what episode. Then again, their website gets updated about once a
year, as they're too cheap to hire someone to do it regularly.

....Hmm. Must have been "Balance of Terror" then.

No idea but just caught Devil in The Dark up here.

Of course not much there that they updated, but still fun to watch it on tv.

Good first choice.

....Yeah, someone uploaded that on one of the binary groups. I took a
look at it, and updated the Wiki entry for that episode with the
notable enhancements. The one thing I have noticed is that the flybys
at fast speeds somehow just don't look quite right. Probably due to
the fact that they attempted actual distance scaling as opposed to the
forced perspective that the Anderson company used while filming the
miniatures.

Of course not much there that they updated, but still fun to watch it on tv.

....The cable cap I watched was muted in the contrast a bit towards the
dark edge, so I'll be interested in seeing how these look when they're
finally released uncut to DVD.

It appeared to me that there might have been some light pulsing on the
Horta. Other than a flashing circle as the Horta burned through a wall, I
didn't notice much improvement (other than the substantially improved
colors).

I would have fixed the view of the "city" outside of the administrator's
office- it still looks like the matte painting it is. While I found most of
the "improvements" to the original Star Wars trilogy to be pointless, Bespin
was definitely improved, and this could have been similarly done to view
through the window.

It's wonderful to see these shows again. Truly back to the future. I found
myself suggesting all sorts of things during the hunt, such as leaving
communicators active or using sensor beacons, which were done in later
series, but whiich the writers at the time didn't think of, or which the
budget didn't allow. 25 seasons of other versions, plus ten movies, provide
terrific hindsight .

Ironically they did. That's a different painting.

....The "remastered" version of "I, Mudd" aired this weekend. What's
interesting is that this time, the android planet has *rings*. Very
nice touch, along with a more believable belly button for Norman.

....One thing I have noticed on the rips I've been getting is that
while the edges are a bit sharper, the colors aren't as vibrant as
they are on the current release on DVD. On the other hand, a couple of
the background colors have a slightly different depth to them. One
particular scene with Kirk in this episode was more of a dark royal
red while on the DVD it's a bit more fluourescent and brighter.

Sigh it's a shame that Gene had to get greedy and steal all those
cut scenes so Majel could cut them up into film clips and sell them
for a couple bucks a pop. There's about two minutes cut from this show
that added a lot more depth to just how much the androids had pulled
off. Scenes with a bunch of extras being waited on hand and foot and
*loving* it, and scenes of androids dropping in their tracks when
Norman deactivates - but not before we see his view of the "violin"
scene, all courtesy of Timothy Leary's Astral Plane Tours.

What a shame it still looked like a painting.

The process isn't perfect. After all, George Lucas missed a bunch of stuff
in his "reimagining"- even with the digital remastering, you can *still* see
the matte lines as the spaceships move, and there is still a few seconds
when Kenobi is fighting Vader on the Death Star that you can see that Alec
Guiness is using a lighted rod.

The space sequences in "I, Mudd" are *vastly* improved. Is Norman's internal
mechanism improved as well? ISTR some flashing lights instead of moving
parts.

And there's a guy walking across it in the distance and going through
a door at the very beginning, too. Look fast.

Still looks like a painting, and the new CGI background is closely
modelled after the original, but all the structures were given a more
more modern and realistic appearance, especially that silly spherical
tank. And did you notice the guy walking through it in the distance? I
didn't the first time, but he's there the first time you see the
painting.

They also redid the visual effect of the Horta tunneling into the
chamber where Kirk and Spock are.

Well, the "Enterprise Changing Course" visual effect was absolutely
horrible, almost as though the staff got half-way through rendering it
and then ran out of time. If there was any surface detail on the hull,
I didn't see it.
